Maui is an island for everyone, not just couples and honeymooners. Young families can enjoy the calm swimmable waters and pools for all ages. Your older, independent family members can enjoy outdoor activities like surfing, kayaking, snorkeling, and hiking.
It’s a classic destination to bring the whole family from grandparents to children. I went with a girlfriend and we had the perfect blend of exploring the island and getting some r&r at the resort. You can’t beat the aloha sprit that’s inviting for everyone.

I loved stopping into the towns of Kihei and Paia to grab some local bites (try Paia Fish Market) and walk around the shops right after we hiked to a waterfall and watched turtles at Ho’okipa beach
Do you need a car for Maui? It is completely possible to enjoy a drive-free vacation in Maui! When we stayed at the Westin Maui Resort & Spa on Ka’anapali beach, we were right next to Whaler’s Village, a shopping center with multiple great eateries. I loved Monkeypod!
Want to get off the beach? Sailing trips depart from right in front of the resort and 7 minutes on the walking path, you’ll reach Black Rock for snorkeling and cliff jumping for the daring. I scuba dived Black Rock during the trip and saw multiple green turtles and an endangered monk seal!
3. Is a kitchen important?
If you prefer to cook your meals, have picky eaters or have dietary restrictions, having access to a kitchen during your stay can be incredibly beneficial.
Hit up Costco before you check-in or at the Fairmont, Andaz and other luxury resorts, you can opt to have your groceries delivered to your villas and even hire a private chef to take cooking off your plate. The kitchens I toured were huge. Kitchen of dreams, truly.
4. What kind of beach?
Maui boasts a diverse range of beaches, each offering unique charms and activities. Whether you seek tranquil shores for sunbathing, water sports such as surfing and snorkeling, or secluded coves for romantic picnics, there is a beach on Maui to suit your preferences.
Ka’anapali beach was rated the best US beach at one point. If you love long stretch of beach walks, this beach is perfect for you.
Wailea area has smaller, more charming beaches with local reefs beach front. Resorts and private properties are nestled in between the beaches so you get a more private oasis.
